THE IÑUPIAT OF NUIQSUT (NUIQSAT)

The old village of Nuiqsut (Nuiqsapiat) is located in the Colville River Delta. Residents relocated in the late 1940s. The Delta is a hunting, fishing, gathering and trading place for the Iñupiat. Today, Nuiqsut is located on the Nechilik (Natchiliq) Channel of the Colville River Delta in the North Slope Borough, 135 miles southeast of Utqiagvik (Barrow) and 50 miles west of Prudhoe Bay. In 1973, Nuiqsut was resettled by 27 families from Utqiagvik.

 

The Native Villlage of Nuiqsut is a federally recognized Tribe.
